Kids should have a teacher assigned to them for conferences who knows them
Parents want to know how their kids are doing at school from someone who has actually spent some time with them in the classroom. The student led conferences are not productive. I don't like asking a question and having the person assigned to my child not able to answer it because they don't know.
Continue to focus on the students
The school systems as a whole tend to focus on standardized tests, instead of focusing on the best education for the students. Our students need to have an education that focuses more on advancements in science, mathematics, and technology.
I would like to see elective classes offered that were more introductory to high school courses. Art is great, but what about an introduction to engineering, foreign languages, and Bio-med? That way, students could see if the classes offered at the high school might be of interest to them.
The ability to choose electives
If a student doesn't what to be in choir or band, it's a crap shoot as to which electives they will get. It would be nice for them to be able to pick specifically which ones they want. Also, with all the typing and computer work required, keyboarding should be required, not an elective.
I feel that I am not always in the loop as to what is happening in the school. I check the website, Powerschool and Schoology but still do not feel connected.
