Look at each child individually
I think trying a little harder to understand where a kid is coming from and then try to work with that. I wish that there was a bit more flexibility for my child, because he really struggles because of his perception of himself, and the constant bullying that he has endured.
To continue to think outside the box
You have kids that are coming from such different backgrounds, and they learn so differently from each other, but they also communicate completely different, and I think that is part what we need to focus on. I belive that peer pressure is worse now than ever.
I think that the school could work harder to expel the stigma that people have
about the word alternative school as a bad thing. This is important to me because of things that have been said to my granddaughter by her family members.
Offering optional ways to earn credits
Keeping with learning styles and ability, offer different classes and opportunities to earn credits, so that the student feels in the driver's seat of their learning. This gives them fuel.
More parent/family involvement
This is important to building a stronger sense of community and support for our students.
